Confederate Flag (1863)

In 1863 the Confederacy modified their flag from the Stars and Bars to add the Southern Cross battle flag design.

The new Confederate flag was never accepted by the Confederate soldiers over their popular battle flag, the Southern Cross.  One of the problems was that it was felt this new flag resembled to much a flag of truce of surrender.
