UNIFORMS OF
THE FRENCH ARMY
IN THE
AMERICAN REVOLUTION

On 5 March 1780 the 2nd Legion, which had stayed in France, was converted to become Lauzun's Legion Volontaires etrangers de Lauzunand soon left for the United States with Rochambeau's army in May. The infantry kept the same uniform but the hussars adopted the uniform of the Compagnie generale, seen to the right.
