UNIFORMS OF
THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

Raised in 1759, the Regiment was sent to America in 1776 becoming the second British cavalry regiment to see service during the War of Independence, the other being the 17th Regiment of Light Dragoons which arrived in America in May, 1775.  The regiment was actively engaged during the Philadelphia campaign, seeing action at Brandywine and Paoli.  It returned to New York and was engaged at Monmouth Court House.  Being badly under strength, men and horses were transferred to the 17th Light Dragoons and the officers returned to Britain in December, 1778.

The regimental facings were dark blue; officers' lace silver.  The mens' lace was yellow with a blue stripe.
