2004 ANNUAL REPORT

MEMBERSHIP AND GENEALOGIST

MEMBERSHIP

The Membership Committee worked with prospective applicants. Once an applicant submitted a preliminary information sheet, he was provided two membership applications on which to present his lineage to the qualifying ancestor. Membership applications are available in printed and electronic formats.

GENEALOGIST

The Society’s long-time genealogist, Arden H. Brame, Jr. II, passed away in August, 2004  after a long illness. Members of the Society assisted him during the difficult months prior to his death as his personal needs increased, including transporting him home from the hospital on more than one occasion, buying groceries, etc.

Prior to his death, Mr. Brame donated to the Society his extensive genealogical library, including some 50 boxes of genealogical books not already in our collection. As a fitting tribute to him, books from his collection are referred to in the Library’s catalog as being from the “Arden Brame Collection”. As a service to the community, the Society recovered Mr. Brame’s files, including those containing the many genealogical projects he had undertaken. Many have been returned to the parties concerned. Assistant Genealogist John E. Rogers, who worked with Mr. Brame for the past few years, has been appointed Genealogist of the Society.

Rev. Dr. Gary A. Dickey, a former Director of the Society, presided over Mr. Brame’s memorial service. The Society’s President, Charles B. Witt, Jr., MD, headed a delegation of officers and members at the service, which included Presidents Emeritus Richard Breithaupt, Jr. and William W. Huss, Jr. No other society had officers in attendance.
